Drive-Thru Flu Clinic to be Held

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department will be offering a drive-thru flu clinic for individuals aged 19 and older. The clinic will be held at the Macon County Health Department, located at 1221 E. Condit St. Decatur, IL 62521. The clinic will operate on October 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During the clinic, those aged 19 to 64 will receive the standard flu vaccine, while individuals aged 65 and older will be given the high-dose flu vaccine.

The clinic will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Attendees are asked to:

Enter on E. Orchard St. and turn left on N. Lowber St.
Be 19 years old or older.
Bring a photo ID and insurance card or relevant information.
Wear a short-sleeved shirt.

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department will be hosting Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage Plan Open Enrollment Events. These events will be held on October 15 ^th , October 22 ^nd , November 5 ^th , November 19 ^th and December 3 ^rd from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Residents can review their plans at no cost, though donations are accepted.

Trained SHIP counselors will assist Medicare beneficiaries with reviewing their Medicare prescription drug plan or Medicare advantage plan options. It is very important for Medicare beneficiaries to review their drug coverage yearly to ensure they are receiving the most cost-effective coverage. Participants are required to schedule an appointment to attend an event and should bring their Medicare cards and a complete list of medications, including dosage and frequency taken.

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) announces the retirement of Brian Wood, Director of Environmental Health, after six years of dedicated service. Brian’s leadership has played a key role in strengthening environmental health programs and protecting the health of our community.

With this transition, the MCHD is proud to announce the promotion of Jerry Brown, currently Assistant Director of Environmental Health, to the role of Director of Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness, effective immediately. Jerry has been with the MCHD for over six years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. He remains committed to keeping Macon County residents and visitors safe through the enforcement of local and state ordinances and public education.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue our division’s mission of protecting the environment and ensuring community safety through all the responsibilities of our multifaceted program,” said Jerry.

First WNV-Positive Mosquito Batch in Macon County

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) has received confirmation of the first mosquito batch testing positive for West Nile Virus. This batch was collected by the Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD) from a gravid mosquito trap. At the time of this release, there is not a positive human case in Macon County.

The MMAD has tested 180 samples with 2 positive results. The risk of infection is currently low. However, residents should check their property and drain/dump any standing water. It is important to continue to check your property to help reduce breeding sources as this will decrease the mosquito population long-term.

Mosquitoes are attracted to standing water, bare skin, and dark clothing. It is recommended to follow the four D’s to help keep mosquitoes away:

Drain : Empty standing water every 5-7 days including watering dishes, bird baths, kiddie pools, etc.

Dress : Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Defend : Properly apply an EPA-registered repellent such as DEET, picaridin, IR 3535, oil of lemon-eucalyptus, para-menthane-diol or 2-undecanone. Oil of lemon eucalyptus and para-menthane-diol are not approved for use in children under the age of three. Insect repellents are not recommended for children younger than 2 months of age. Consult your physician before using repellents on young children or infants.

Dusk/Dawn : Avoid peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn, when possible.

The MMAD performs daily inspections within the district and continues to treat areas of standing water that contain mosquito larvae/pupae. The MMAD staff are also looking for neglected pools, ornamental ponds, open containers and other areas that might be overlooked for mosquito breeding. If you are aware of an area that has standing water for three (3) or more days, please call the MMAD at (217) 875-2722. If you are not in the MMAD district, they can refer you to the appropriate agency.

The MCHD also conducts surveillance of West Nile Virus in dead birds. Bird collections must be fully intact without decomposition or bugs. If you find a dead bird, please call the Health Department at (217) 423-6988 ext. 1134 to report it.

DECATUR, IL - To mark the conclusion of National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, the Macon County Health Department (MCHD) and the Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD) are teaming up to host a tire recycling event for Macon County residents. The event will take place on Friday, June 20th, from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Unused or discarded tires can collect standing water and become ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. By offering a convenient and responsible disposal option, MCHD and MMAD aim to help reduce mosquito populations and minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in the community. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to promote public health and environmental safety.

Residents are encouraged to participate and take proactive steps in protecting their neighborhoods from mosquito-related health risks.

Diabetes Self-Management Program to be Offered in May

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department is offering an evidence-based Diabetes Self-Management Program that is open to the public. Through the program, individuals will learn how to communicate effectively with their doctor and other healthcare professionals, manage symptoms, fight fatigue, build their confidence, eat healthier, and monitor their blood sugar.

Classes are held on Wednesdays for two and a half hours. They are FREE and open to all of those affected by diabetes, including family members and caregivers. The sessions will be held from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Macon County Health Department, located at 1221 E. Condit St. in Decatur, Illinois.

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) is pleased to announce the installation of a new sharps disposal drop box. The sharps disposal drop box can be found outside of the main entrance at 1221 E. Condit St. The sharps disposal drop box provides a safe, accessible, and environmentally responsible way for the community to dispose of used needles and other sharps. This initiative aims to reduce health risks associated with improper needle disposal and enhance public safety.

The new sharps disposal box is available 24/7 and provides a secure and convenient option for individuals who use injectable medications or require safe disposal of sharps. Additionally, community members in need of a container for proper sharps disposal can visit the MCHD during business hours to receive a free container.

DECATUR, IL- Every year, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) partners with local communities to hold events and raise awareness throughout Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs this year from September 15-21. The Macon County Health Department will be offering a free car seat check event on Friday, September 20 ^th , 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Crossing Healthcare drive-thru facility, located at 990 N Water St. Decatur, IL 62521.

“Unfortunately, many parents and caregivers underestimate the difficulty surrounding proper use regarding car seats,” said Emily O’Connell. “They believe they’re protecting their kids, but almost half of car seats are either the wrong seat for the child’s age and size, or the seats are installed incorrectly.” According to NHTSA, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children. Every day in 2022, an average of three children 14 and younger were killed in crashes, and another 429 were injured. “We know parents and caregivers want to keep their kids safe,” added Emily O’Connell, “so they’ll do everything in their power to protect them. An easy way to do that is to double-check their car seats.”

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to provide parents and caregivers with an opportunity to learn about child passenger safety check car seats, let caregivers know if their children are in the right seats for their ages and sizes, and show them how to install the right seats correctly. Caregivers should bring the following with them to the check event: the child who will be riding the car seat, the vehicle’s owner’s manual, and the car seat instruction manual, if possible. Appointments are not required, but strongly encouraged and can be made by calling 217-423-6988 and choosing option 6.

At the time of this release, there is not a positive human case in Macon County.

MMAD has tested 168 samples with 1 positive result. The risk of infection is currently low. However, due to the recent rainfall, it is likely there will be an increase in the mosquito population. Residents should check their property and drain/dump any standing water. It is important to continue to check your property to help reduce breeding sources as this will decrease the mosquito population long-term.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of High School Diploma or GED with two (2) years of office experience required, preferably in the medical field. Must have experience working with families. Must be compassionate, have a pleasant attitude, and maintain a positive, customer-friendly manner with the public at all times. Must have excellent communication, phone, and organizational skills. Must have knowledge of general office procedures/equipment and have basic computer skills; the ability to type 40 words per minute (WPM) preferred. Must be able to work effectively under stress. Must have the ability to work with diverse community groups. Must have a dependable vehicle for use during work hours, valid Illinois Driver’s License, and appropriate auto insurance. Must be able to access a client’s home as needed. This position requires an individual be physically able to meet the demands of the job including bending, squatting, lifting up to 25 pounds, and assisting with holding during immunizations.

Starting Point Caregiver Stress-Busting Dementia Program

The Macon County Health Department’s Starting Point Division will be facilitating a Stress-Busting Dementia Program for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The program will teach stress management techniques as well as relaxation and coping strategies for caregivers. This program is available at no cost.

Who: Family caregivers of a loved one with dementia

What: Multi-component program that will meet 90 minutes/week for 9 sessions. Will accept groups of up to 8 people.

DECATUR, IL- The Macon County Health Department will be holding a Drive-Thru Flu Clinic for those 18 years and older on November 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The annual flu vaccine will be given to those who are 18 to 64 years old. Those who are 65 years and older will receive the high dose flu vaccine.

The flu clinic is for those 18 years and older. Those who plan to attend should:

Decatur, IL – The Macon County Health Department will be hosting Medicare Part D Open Enrollment Events on October 17th, October 26th, and November 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Trained SHIP counselors will assist Medicare beneficiaries with reviewing their prescription drug plan options. It is very important for Medicare beneficiaries to review their drug coverage yearly to ensure they are receiving the most cost-effective coverage. Participants are required to schedule an appointment to attend an event and should bring their Medicare cards and a complete list of medications, including dosage and frequency taken.

Macon County Health Department to host a Car Seat Check Event

Decatur, IL – The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) is pleased to announce our participation in Child Passenger Safety Week by hosting an event on September 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to noon. This campaign is dedicated to helping parents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safely as possible — every trip, every time. Child Passenger Safety Week runs from September 17 ^th to 23rd. This event is one of 92 in Illinois that are sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The latest research from NHTSA shows that 46% of car seats are misused. Common issues are children being in the wrong type of car seat for their age and size, and car seats being installed improperly — both of which leave children vulnerable to injury in a crash.

Using age- and size-appropriate car seats and installing them correctly are the best ways to reduce crash fatalities among children. According to NHTSA, more than a third of children 12 and younger who died in crashes in 2021 in cars, pickups, vans, and SUVs were unbuckled. The No. 1 rule: Never let your children ride unbuckled — not even on a short trip.

As parents and caregivers, we have a long list of things we do for our children to show our love. One of the simplest and most important things on the list should be to make sure they are in the right car seat for their age and size by getting your car seats checked.

By attending the car seat check event at the MCHD on September 23rd, parents and caregivers can be sure their kids are riding as safely as possible. The number one goal is to make sure every child leaves the event safer than they arrived. Child Passenger Safety Technicians will check the seat for a secure fit, explain the law, look up recalls and more.

Macon County Reports First Human Case of West Nile Virus

DECATUR, IL - The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) is announcing the first positive human case of West Nile virus in Macon County in 2023. This case is one of twelve (12) CDC-confirmed cases discovered across six (6) counties in Illinois. With this announcement, public health officials and our colleagues at the Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD) wish to remind residents to do all they can to “Fight the Bite” as the weather remains warm, and mosquitos continue to breed.

Jason Probus, Director of MMAD, states, “We continue to conduct routine surveillance and are closely monitoring the situation. To date, we have twenty (20) West Nile virus-positive batches of mosquitoes from seven (7) different trap sites within our District. When mosquito populations and virus detection thresholds are met, we will conduct adult mosquito treatments in neighborhoods as needed. Citizens can do their part by removing items that hold standing water from their backyards. Without significant rains, man-made sources will more than likely be the cause of mosquito activity. To report standing water, contact MMAD via phone at (217) 875-2722 or online at www.maconmosquito.org.”

West Nile Virus is transmitted through the bite of a Culex mosquito, commonly called a typical mosquito, which has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird. Common symptoms of WNV include fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches. Symptoms may last from a few days to a few weeks. Four (4) out of five (5) people infected with West Nile virus will not show any symptoms. However, in rare cases, severe illness can occur, including brain infections such as meningitis or encephalitis and paralysis or even death. There is no specific treatment for WNV nor is there a vaccine at present. Therefore, it is critically important that people minimize their risk of acquiring the virus.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) encourages the public to Fight the Bite and take steps to prevent WNV by practicing the three “R’s” – reduce, repel, and report:

• REDUCE - Make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or other openings. Try to keep doors and windows shut. Eliminate, or refresh each week, all sources of standing water where mosquitoes can breed, including water in bird baths, ponds, flowerpots, wading pools, old tires, and any other containers.

• REPEL - When outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long pants, and a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt, and apply an EPA-registered insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR 3535 according to label instructions. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) does not recommend use of products containing lemon eucalyptus oil or para-menthane-diol on children under three (3) years old. Consult a physician before using repellents on children under 3.

• REPORT – Report locations where you see water sitting stagnant for more than a week such as roadside ditches, flooded yards, and similar locations that may produce mosquitoes. The local health department or city government may be able to add larvicide to the water, which will kill any mosquito larvae.

Last year, 44 counties in Illinois reported positive WNV mosquitoes, birds, humans and/or horses. So far in 2023, there have been 2,034 positive mosquito batches and 13 positive birds from 44 counties.

The Macon County Health Department is offering an evidence-based Diabetes Self-Management Program that is open to the public. Through the program, individuals will learn how to communicate effectively with their doctor and other healthcare professionals, manage symptoms, fight fatigue, build their confidence, eat healthier, and monitor their blood sugar.

Classes are held once per week for two and a half hours. They are FREE and open to all of those affected by diabetes, including family members and caregivers. The classes will be held from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday for six consecutive weeks starting July 6th. The sessions will be at the Macon County Health Department, located at 1221 E. The Macon County Health Department (MCHD), Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD), and Macon County Environmental Management (MCEM) will be partnering to hold a tire drive for residents in Macon County on Thursday, June 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Unused/discarded tires can quickly become prime breeding grounds for mosquitos. The MCHD, MMAD, and MCEM will be working to eliminate some of the barriers associated with tire disposal to decrease mosquito-borne infections and illnesses.

What : Tire Drive to collect rimless passenger tires

Who is Invited to Participate : Macon County residents

When : Thursday, June 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Where : Macon Mosquito Abatement District, 3755 Cundiff Rd., Decatur, IL

Last night at the Macon County Health Department’s (MCHD) monthly Board of Health (BOH) meeting, members took action to unanimously appoint Lindsey Munsterman, MSND, as the new Public Health Administrator (PHA) of the MCHD.

Mark Scranton, Board of Health President, confirmed that the board is excited to appoint Munsterman to the position and wished to congratulate her on behalf of the board. “After careful evaluation of all the candidates and completing the process of interviewing the finalists, Lindsey proved to be the best fit for the department. Recently, as Interim PHA, Lindsey demonstrated the ability to lead and make decisions for the benefit of the department and the staff. We look forward to seeing what the future holds under her leadership,” Scranton stated.

Munsterman most recently assumed the Interim PHA role on January 31, 2023 after serving as the Assistant Director of WIC and Family Case Management. “I am honored to be appointed to a position with such great responsibility. Thank you to the Macon County Board, the Board of Health, and my Macon County Health Department team for trusting me with this opportunity.”

LaKeeya Funches will begin in her new role as CFO on Monday, February 13, 2023. LaKeeya obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Millikin University and has been involved in a multitude of acts of community service in Macon County. “I am excited for the opportunity to continue serving the Macon County Health Department in a new role and am grateful to have had a wonderful mentor, Sheree Zalanka, who helped me lay a solid foundation in my career here. Thank you to the outgoing administration, our interim administrator, and the Board of Health for the support and opportunity to take this next step,” Funches stated. In a unanimous affirmative vote, the Macon County Health Department (MCHD) Board of Health is announcing the appointment of Lindsey Munsterman, MSND (Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics), as Interim Public Health Administrator. This appointment follows the departure of Brandi Binkley, who has served the MCHD for over 17 years, most recently as Public Health Administrator beginning May 31, 2019.

Mark Scranton, Board of Health President, stated that it is the Board’s desire that everyone works together to ensure a smooth transition. He went on to thank Binkley for her service and guidance at the department and congratulated Munsterman on her appointment. The Board is looking forward to working with Munsterman in the coming days and weeks.

After her appointment, Munsterman stated, “I am humbled and grateful for the Board of Health’s decision to appoint me as Interim Public Health Administrator. I look forward to the challenge and responsibility of guiding the Macon County Health Department during this transition period. I would like to extend my most sincere thank you to our prior Public Health Administrator, Brandi Binkley, for setting such a high standard for me to meet in taking over her role.”

Munsterman assumed her interim position effective today, January 31, 2023.

MCHD to Administer Bivalent Vaccine and Booster

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has amended the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to authorize bivalent formulations of the vaccines.

The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) will start administering Moderna and Pfizer bivalent boosters this Thursday, September 8, 2022. These boosters have been authorized for people 18 years+ (Moderna) and 12 years+ (Pfizer-BioNTech). Bivalent vaccines can be used as a single booster dose at least two months following a primary series or booster vaccination. Boosters will be available by appointment only.

Confirmed MPV (Monkeypox) Case in Macon County

The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) are investigating a case of Monkeypox (MPV) linked to a congregate care facility in Macon County. At this time, we consider the risk of exposure to be minimal, but, out of an abundance of caution, are screening and offering vaccines to those identified as an exposure risk. This release is intended to notify the public that MPV is present in Macon County; however, the MCHD does not plan to regularly report MPV cases.

Transmission is possible through:

close physical contact with body fluids or MPV sores of a person infected with MPV, regardless of sexual orientation;
contact with items that have been contaminated with fluids or sores (clothing, bedding, etc.);
and/or respiratory droplets following prolonged face-to-face contact.

MPV is a rare, but potentially serious, viral illness that typically begins with flu-like symptoms and swelling of the lymph nodes and progresses to a rash on the face and/or body. MPV can spread from the time symptoms start until the rash has fully healed and a fresh layer of skin has formed. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks. People who do not have MPV symptoms cannot spread the virus to others. People who have a new or unexplained rash, sores, or symptoms, or have a confirmed exposure, should contact a healthcare provider and avoid sex or being intimate with anyone until they have been seen. If a person or their partner has MPV, they should follow the treatment and prevention recommendations outlined by their healthcare provider and avoid sex or being intimate with anyone until all sores have healed and have a fresh layer of skin formed. Illness could be clinically confused with a sexually transmitted infection like syphilis or herpes, or with varicella zoster virus.

In regards to the MPV vaccine, counties were not eligible to receive vaccine unless they had a confirmed case of the virus. Upon notification of the confirmed case in Macon County, the MCHD requested the vaccine immediately and will provide additional updates regarding access to the vaccine.

WNV-Positive Mosquito Batch in Macon County

The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) has received confirmation of the first mosquito batch testing positive for West Nile Virus. This batch was collected by the Macon Mosquito Abatement District (MMAD) in a roaming trap. Adult samples were RAMP (Rapid Analyte Measurement Platform) tested by the District. At the time of this release, there is not a positive human case in Macon County.

MMAD has tested 162 samples with 1 positive result. The risk of infection is currently low. However, due to the recent rainfall, it is likely there will be an increase in the mosquito population. Residents should check their property and drain/dump any standing water. It is important to continue to check your property to help reduce breeding sources as this will decrease the mosquito population long-term.

Mosquitoes are attracted to standing water, bare skin, and dark clothing. It is recommended to follow the four D’s to help keep mosquitoes away:

Drain : Empty standing water every 5-7 days including watering dishes, bird baths, etc.

Dress : Wear long sleeves, long pants, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Defend : Properly apply an EPA-registered repellent such as DEET, picaridin, IR 3535 or oil of lemon-eucalyptus. Insect repellents are not recommended for children younger than 2 months of age. Consult your physician before using repellents on young children or infants.

Dusk/Dawn : Avoid peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn, when possible.

The MCHD also conducts surveillance of West Nile Virus in dead birds. Birds must be fully intact without decomposition or bugs. If you find a dead bird, please call the Health Department at (217) 423-6988 ext. 1134 to report it.

The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) is hosting a back-to-school event on Saturday, August 6, 2022. Macon County students and their families will be able to receive vaccines needed to enter into kindergarten, 6 ^th , and 12 ^th grade; a lead test; and/or a COVID-19 vaccine/booster for the entire family (6 months and older).

Who: Macon County students and their families

Where: Macon County Health Department, 1221 E. Condit St., Decatur, IL 62521

When: Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

*Parents and Guardians: Please bring an insurance card and records, if possible.

Appointments are not required to attend this event. However, the event will work on a first-come, first-served basis. If a person is not able attend this event, please call 217-423-6988 ext. 1100 to schedule an appointment. The MCHD encourages those needing the required back-to-school vaccines to not wait until the school’s denial date.

The Macon County Health Department (MCHD) will begin administering the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for ages 6 months to 4 years old starting Thursday, June 30th, 2022. The MCHD will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccines to all other ages on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Appointments are strongly encouraged. Macon County Moves to Medium COVID-19 Community Level

Due to the recent uptick in cases, the CDC updated Macon County's COVID-19 Community Level from low to medium. Weekly metrics used to determine the COVID-19 Community Level include the following: case rate per 100,000 population, new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population, and percent staffed inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed COVID-19.

Based on our current community level, it is recommended that individuals should:

Stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccines, including booster doses.
Get tested if you have symptoms.

Due to the recent uptick in cases, the CDC updated Macon County's COVID-19 Community Level from low to medium. Weekly metrics used to determine the COVID-19 Community Level include the following: case rate per 100,000 population, new COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population, and percent staffed inpatient beds in use by patients with confirmed COVID-19.

Based on our current community level, it is recommended that individuals should:

Stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccines, including booster doses.
Get tested if you have symptoms.
Wear a mask if you have symptoms, have a positive COVID-19 test, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Information Regarding Infant Formula Shortage

Important information regarding the infant formula shortage below:

Never dilute formula. Diluting infant formula with water or other liquids can be dangerous and even life-threatening for babies, leading to serious nutritional deficit and health issues.

Avoid homemade formula. Homemade formulas often lack or have inadequate amounts of critical nutrients. For example, babies fed homemade infant formula have been hospitalized due to hypocalcemia (low calcium).

Use of substitute formulas is OK. For most babies, if their regular brand of formula is not currently available, it is ok to substitute with a similar version. If families have questions about which formula is acceptable, or if they are still have difficulty finding formula, they should contact their child's pediatric provider or WIC clinic.

Talk to your doctor. Families should consult their pediatrician if their babies or children require a specialized formula and need a recommendation for a comparable formula to use. Providers can also submit an urgent request for specialized formula to Abbott, a primary formula manufacturer. Abbott is releasing some specialty and metabolic formulas on a case-by-case basis.

The Macon County Health Department, in partnership with Crossing Healthcare, will begin to offer sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing on Wednesdays starting May 4th. STI testing is confidential. We will be able test for: HIV, Hep C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Bacterial Vaginosis, Yeast, Trichomonas, and Herpes Simplex outbreak treatments. Diabetes Self-Management Program Classes to be Held

DECATUR, IL – The Macon County Health Department is offering an evidence-based Diabetes Self-Management Program series that is open to the public. Through the program, individuals will learn how to communicate effectively with their doctor and other healthcare professionals, manage symptoms, fight fatigue, build their confidence, eat healthier, and monitor their blood sugar.

Classes are held once per week for two and a half hours. They are FREE and open to all of those affected by diabetes, including family members and caregivers. The classes will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. every Thursday for six consecutive weeks starting May 26th. The sessions will be in the WIC Conference Room at the Macon County Health Department, located at 1221 E. Condit St. in Decatur, Illinois. The last class takes place on Thursday, June 30th. Masking and social distancing requirements are still being upheld at the MCHD. Attendees can plan ahead and bring a mask, or one will be provided for you upon entry.

Vaccine Type: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson – 1st, 2nd and booster doses
Clinic Type: Appointment preferred; walk-ins accepted.
Ages: This clinic is for those 5 years and older.
Please bring insurance card if possible.
